Warm for July brings together five experienced musicians from the Toowoomba and South East Queensland music scenes for an evening of jazz that puts groove, improvisation and musical conversation front and centre.
Featuring Nathan Hitzke on vocals, Jesse Kupper on guitar, Paul Edwards on saxophone, Mark Chalmers on bass and Harry Schneider on drums, Warm for July draws from a broad musical landscape spanning jazz, fusion, funk, soul and blues. Rather than being tied to any one era or style, the band shares a love of strong melodies, deep grooves and the freedom to take the music somewhere unexpected.
Nathan Hitzke brings more than 25 years of performance experience to the group as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, with influences ranging from jazz and blues to rock and contemporary music. His engaging vocal style sits at the centre of a band that thrives on interaction and spontaneity.
Guitarist and composer Jesse Kupper, a graduate of the Jazz Music Institute, brings a distinctly modern voice to the group, drawing inspiration from players including Allan Holdsworth, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery and Scott Henderson. Alongside him, Paul Edwards brings more than three decades of experience on saxophone and clarinet, having shared the stage with artists including Don Burrows, James Morrison, Emma Pask, Kevin Hunt and John Morrison, and currently performing with The Magnificence, Slips and the F. W.’s and a range of other South East Queensland ensembles.
Holding it all together are Mark Chalmers and Harry Schneider, two familiar faces on the Toowoomba music scene. Mark is an accomplished bassist, guitarist, composer and educator whose work crosses jazz, fusion, contemporary music and professional theatre, while Harry is a versatile drummer and educator with experience across jazz, fusion, contemporary and roots music. Together they provide a rhythm section capable of moving effortlessly from subtle and spacious to seriously funky.
Warm for July is about musicians listening, reacting and having some fun with great music. Expect familiar tunes approached from unexpected angles, plenty of improvisation, infectious grooves and a few surprises along the way.

ENTRY: TJS Members $15, Non-members $20. Annual membership of Toowoomba Jazz Society is available on the night.
PARKING: Access the car park off Gipps Street, or use the parks in front of the bowling green on Ball Street and access via the gate.
ENTRANCE: Up the steps from the car park on the southern side of the building or from the bowling green side. Disabled access ramp on the Western side (Gipps Street) and through the bar.
