The Lisa Christensen’s Unscheduled Syncopators Jazz Band will feature at the Toowoomba
Jazz Club on Friday night, the 11th of September. Mal Gaydon, who will play trombone in the
band, has recently formed the band to play especially at the Jazz Club. Hopefully it won’t be
the band’s last performance. All the band members are no strangers to the Toowoomba
Jazz Club and have all played together in different bands for many years. The Band plays
mostly traditional, swing, mainstream jazz, Latin and ballads. The aim for the night and
future gigs is to present a more authentic sound when playing many of the old trad and
swing standards, and with the help of Lisa Christensen on vocals, should make for a
wonderful night.

Mal Gaydon (trombone),
Mal has been playing at the Toowoomba Jazz Club for over forty years, playing in bands
such as Juzz Jazz, Tuxedo Junction, Ruthven Street Stompers, Onya Bike, The Jimmy
Miller Big Band and filling in on occasion with many others. While living in other areas of the
country, Mal has played with Jazz greats such as James Morrison, Don Burrows and the
mostly original Glen Miller Big Band during their visit to Australia.
Benn Tracey – Sousaphone
Benn has been playing brass instruments since the age of 5 and is almost ready to perform
professionally. His journey as a sousaphone player began 15 years ago when he found one
abandoned in a school storage cupboard and joined a band performing pop and rock songs
as jazz and Latin covers. He is a school teacher as a hobby and enjoys performing regularly
in the trad jazz scene in Toowoomba.
Lisa Christensen (Skerman)- Vocal
Lisa loves melodies that get stuck in your head and crunchy, delightful harmonies. She's
grown up listening to and playing jazz, big band and brass band music. Lisa has been
involved in music theatre locally with lead roles in Come from Away, Phantom of the Opera
and Mary Poppins. She recently directed and performed in Next Chapter; things left in books
featuring the Accidentals. She currently conducts Sing Australia Toowoomba, a choir that
celebrates and welcomes anyone who likes to sing.
Bill White – Drums
Bill started playing in pubs when he was 15. He has played in most of the clubs around
Sydney, playing with many well-known musicians. He still has his original Premier drum kit,
as well as his much-loved Gretsch Kit.
He came to Queensland in the mid 90’s, playing in a variety of bands but Jazz has always
been his first love and relishes the opportunity to get a gig these days.
Paul Edwards – Reeds
Paul has performed professionally as a reed player for more than 30 years. Best known for
his warm tenor saxophone sound, he also plays clarinet across jazz, swing, blues, soul and
funk. A member of The Magnificence, he also performs with several leading South East
Queensland bands. Paul has shared the stage with acclaimed Australian jazz artists including Don Burrows,
James Morrison and Emma Pask. His expressive improvisation and decades of experience
bring depth and authenticity to every performance.
Jeffrey Poole-Trumpet
Jeffrey has enjoyed a lifetime of involvement in the music industry, performing mostly on
Trumpet, Flugel Horn and Cornet. He has performed in Brass Bands, Brass Ensembles,
Stage bands, Concert Bands, Rock Bands, Reception Bands, Orchestras including the
Australian Pops Orchestra, Qld Pops Orchestra, Theatre Shows, Police and Military Bands,
Backing bands for artists including John Farnham, Normie Rowe, Deni Hines, Harry
Secombe, Black and White Minstrel Show Tour, Al Martino and Bill Medley from the
Righteous Brothers. Jeffrey has also been active in Instrumental Music Teaching in schools.

PARKING: Access the car park off Gipps Street, or use the parks in front of the bowling green on Ball Street and access via the gate.
ENTRANCE: Up the steps from the car park on the southern side of the building or from the bowling green side. Disabled access ramp on the Western side (Gipps Street) and through the bar.
